FNDE provides partial results of research that evaluates school transportation in Brazil
The National Fund for Education Development (FNDE) made available on Thursday, the partial results of the research that evaluates the School Path, a program that aims to renew, standardize and expand the fleet of school vehicles of municipal and state education networks public basic education. The research was developed in partnership with the Federal University of Goiás and its results will provide subsidies to the decisions of the FNDE in the management of technical and financial assistance to school transport policy.
The questionnaires were made available via web in July 2018 to 5,570 municipal managers and advisers of the Fundeb's Monitoring and Social Control Council, in addition to 77,000 questionnaires for school principals. The results will serve as a basis for analysis of school dropout, standardization and maintenance of the school fleet, as well as other specific factors related to students' transportation.
One of the points raised in the research, for example, concerns the type of fleet that serves students, both in rural and urban areas. The results show an increase in the last years of the availability of school transport through adequate vehicles, data that will allow the maintenance of policies already implemented and improvement of the actions in the area. It was also observed the reduction in the average age of the used buses and the use of vehicles that were not suitable for the transportation of students who, in many regions, used adapted trucks and vans, known as macarons.
The questionnaires launched last year included both the School Path and the National School Transport Support Program (PNATE), but at this point only the data collected in the scope of the School Path was disclosed, since the action was planned to occur in stages and that all information is still being worked on.
